Barrington starts the summer off right with a fabulous art festival in the center of the village.
This past weekend was the 9th Annual Barrington Art Festival presented by Amdur Productions. Over 120 artists from all over the country participated. An estimated 8,000 visitors from the surrounding area attended the festival.
Patty Dowd Schmitz, Director of Communications, Marketing, and Events for the Village of Barrington, said. “I interface with the production company of the Art Festival, Amdur Productions, to ensure that we have a successful event in downtown Barrington. The festival appeals to all ages through the different types of art that are offered. Also, Amdur Productions does a wonderful job providing a family-friendly kid zone where children can have their faces painted and also create art of their own.”
The festival featured a Graffiti Art wall that included the handprint paintings of visiting children, giving them a chance to express their artistic talents.
Artists John & Christine Strobel of John/Christine Designs, Paoli, Wisconsin, have been showing their jewelry at the Barrington Art Festival since year one. They have been designing jewelry for over 40 years pulling inspiration from “observations in everyday life; largely, but not limited to, things in nature and architecture.” What John and Christine enjoy most while in Barrington is “the strong sense of community and interactions with people who enjoy art. We also love the neighboring homes. They are so beautifully maintained. We make it a point of taking a walk around them every year.”
If you missed the festival this year, do not worry because it will return!
According to Dowd Schmitz, “Next year will be a very special year, given that it's the 10-year anniversary of the Art Festival. I'm sure that Amdur Productions will have a number of exciting new things planned, and that they will bring in even more new and exciting artists. It will be a wonderful anniversary celebration.”
