In its sixth year, the 2018 “Oscar Shorts” Film Festival at the Catlow Theater in Barrington continues with a sold-out show on Saturday, February 24.
However, a limited number of tickets are still available for the two additional showings on Saturday, March 3, and Sunday, March 4. Due to popular demand in previous years, the festival added a third showing this year.
The showings run from noon to 4:00 p.m. and feature all ten short films nominated in the animated and live action categories. This year, the Catlow will have wine and beer available during the festival in addition to food selections from the adjacent Showtime Eatery.
This year’s nominated short films are:
- Dear Basketball
- Garden Party
- Negative Space
- Revolting Rhymes
- DeKalb Elementary
- My Nephew Emmett
- The Eleven O’Clock
- The Silent Child
- Watu Wote (All of Us)
Trailers for each of the films can be viewed at www.oscars.org. Please note that some films are not officially rated and may contain content not appropriate for young children.
“The popularity of Oscar Shorts has grown every year as returnees to the event love both the variety and the challenge of choosing the two films that will be announced as winners at the March 4 Academy Awards show,” said Jack Schaefer, a member of the Barrington Cultural Commission and organizer of the event along with Tim Roberts from the Catlow Theater. “It has been a wonderful partnership between the Cultural Commission and the Catlow.”
Tickets are available for the March 3 and 4 showings by going to www.thecatlow.com or in person at the Catlow Theater or Showtime Eatery. A portion of the proceeds benefits the Barrington Cultural Commission.
