The Barrington Police Benevolent Association creates strong positive relationships with the community they serve through 'Shop With A Cop' events.

Before the start of school and to celebrate the holiday season, the Barrington Police Benevolent Association (BPBA) hosts celebratory shopping events for local families in need.

This year the BPBA invited 15 families, including 38 kids, to join them for the 'Shop With a Cop' Holiday 2016 event Sunday, December 11th, 2016. Starting with a hot breakfast buffet at the Barrington Public Safety Building, families sat alongside all the exciting safety vehicles enjoying pancakes, eggs, hash browns, bacon and sausage catered from Southern Belle’s. After breakfast Santa arrived and with his helpers, distributed a wrapped gift to each child and warm blankets to each family.

After breakfast and time with Santa, families went on to Target in Lake Zurich where police, firefighters and public safety staff members met them for a fun holiday shopping excursion. Each family was paired up with a first responder and shopped for essential items and gifts. While shopping, each child was asked what they would like to get their mom, dad or caregiver for Christmas. Members of BPBA found the gifts and on behalf of the children, purchased the gifts for the children to give on Christmas Day.

The entire event was funded by a grant from the Barrington Area United Way (BAUW) and some additional private donations.

Barrington High School Students on the BAUW Youth Board helped the BPBA by wrapping presents prior to the event and cleaning up after the breakfast celebration so the first responders could get to shopping with the families.

Target in Lake Zurich created drawstring bags filled with goodies for each child and also donated a bicycle and bike helmets for one lucky boy and girl. The winning names were pulled from all of the children participating in the event.

The Barrington Police Benevolent Association (BPBA) is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit association of 23 member officers from the Barrington Police Department that acts as the liaison between the police department and the community. The Association’s objectives are benevolent, charitable, civic, patriotic, educational and assisting in community endeavors.
