Stop for Pedestrians in Crosswalks

Village of Barrington News
June 27, 2013

State law and Village ordinance requires all motorists to STOP for pedestrians in all crosswalks. Crosswalks aren’t always marked with signs or pavement striping; however, motorists are still required to STOP when a pedestrian is attempting to cross the street. Barrington is a very active community for walking, running, riding bicycles, and vehicle traffic. All can be in close proximity, especially in the active downtown area or near schools. Shoppers, diners, and others are walking around town morning, noon and night. Please respect their safety and the law. Be alert at crosswalks and always STOP for pedestrians crossing the street.
