BACOG facilitates cooperative regional strategies on emergency management, groundwater research and environmental conservation, legislative advocacy, and member communications and training. In the past year for example BACOG governments banned the use of toxic coal tar pavement sealants on their own government property and provided education to residents on associated dangers. BACOG also obtained VEOCI software for its government members, which is a virtual emergency management tool that will enhance regional communications, and hosted an “infectious disease” tabletop exercise for officials and first responders. BACOG conducted lobby days in Springfield, facilitated multiple private well water testing events, and developed a video about local groundwater for CUSD 220 elementary school students.
Vice-chairman Kevin Richardson noted, “Through regular communications,
our members benefit from greater insight into the problems and ideas
of our neighboring BACOG communities. Our collective voice is more
powerful on local and legislative issues that affect us all.”
Martin J. McLaughlin, Barrington Hills Village President, was also recognized at the June meeting for serving as 2015-16 BACOG Chairman. The board commended his leadership on the organization’s environmental and legislative initiatives.
