Since opening the doors of Long & Co. Jewelers in 2006, Brian Long has been an unselfish supporter of local not for profits.

Donating beautiful items to help organizations has resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars raised. Charitable organizations have funded programs and services directly impacting the area thanks to Brian Long’s generosity.

One organization benefitting from Brian’s kindness has been the Barrington Junior Women’s Club (BJWC). Since Long & Co. started, Brian Long has worked with the all-volunteer organization by donating an impactful gift for the annual fashion show, donating to the spring event, and also smaller club events as needed.

The Barrington Junior Women’s Club (BJWC) started honoring their leadership the past two years with beautiful custom 14k necklaces with the BJWC logo and years of leadership created by Long & Co. Erin Shechtman and Mary Dale each received one from the club once their tenure as President came to an end.

“While BJWC had been coming to Long & Co. for the outgoing president's gift for many years, over the past two years, I've often thought about why it took us this long to come up with such a wonderful commemorative piece. What about the presidents we worked with before Erin?” Brian Long shared.

This past fall, Brian Long contacted Kathy Brodin, a long-standing member of BJWC, with a plan to surprise all of the presidents he had worked with since opening his doors in 2006. This plan was to remain strictly confidential until the presentation at the fashion show.  He wanted to donate and gift all ten of them with the same 14k custom necklace reflecting their years of service and include their birthstone.

"I really felt Long & Co. had worked with so many wonderful presidents since the day we opened in 2006, that they deserved the same beautiful necklace the outgoing presidents were receiving. Donating isn't always just about raising funds. Sometimes giving can be a kind gesture to deserving individuals for a job well done." says Long.

He had planned to present the gifts at the annual BJWC fashion show in November, but due to unforeseen circumstances, it was not possible. Past presidents were contacted the week prior to the fashion show and met Brian at Long & Co. Jewelers to receive their gift.

“Such an amazing gift to honor our service to BJWC. We have so loved partnering with Brian to help make our community a better place,” shared BJWC President 2008-2009 Wendy Bower. “Brian Long has been like family to us over the past 11 years and has always been there to help us whenever we have asked.”

Although the impact of the charitable work is usually the reward for leading volunteer organizations, receiving a surprise gift for their service turned out to be a sweet surprise for these past BJWC leaders.

“BJWC's partners are the backbone of the organization,” said Doreen Colletti Muhs BJWC President 2007-2008. “This is one of the most thoughtful and generous things I've ever seen done.”

  • 2014 - 2015 Veronica Thompson
