Last Saturday night, the JourneyCare Foundation held their 12th Annual Gala at Tudor Oaks Farm in Barrington Hills.
Guests were treated to the ultimate evening of equestrian splendor. Starting at check-in, everyone was offered the opportunity to take a carriage ride on one of the Tudor Oaks Farm's historic carriages throughout the cocktail hour, or guests could also enjoy cocktails poolside. A signature cocktail, the ‘Tudor Oaks’ was served along with a full bar and a variety of appetizers, including mini lamb chops, brie-chutney quesadillas, phylo purses and more.
Displays of five unique raffle items were showcased poolside during cocktails and appetizers. Guests could buy chances from JourneyCare Foundation Youth Board members and additional teen volunteers for an opportunity to win one of these items:

The floral arrangements from Chicago florist Kehoe Designs featured Hydrangeas in silver ‘Trophy Cups’ and a variety of greens and candles. Gala Committee member Stephanie Cecola, created moss covered jumping horses, to bring the equestrian theme into the dinner setting.
Entertaining Company of Chicago prepared dinner. Starting with a Farmer’s Salad of grilled asparagus, beats, meadow greens, pickled onions, goat cheese & edible flowers, followed by the entrée of Grilled Ribeye in natural jus with garlic rosemary aioli paired with Zucchini Encrusted Striped Bass in preserved lemon sauce served with Potatoes Dauphinoise in Mini Cast Iron Skillets, and a variety of roasted vegetables. After Sarah’s presentation, JourneyCare Foundation’s Director of Community Events, Kristin Frazier, thanked hosts Richard and Dr. Stacie Stephenson for hosting the event at their beautiful estate. Stacie then surprised her husband with a lovely video she made highlighting all the beautiful natural features of Tudor Oaks Farm. Richard and Stacie both spoke of their support of charitable causes like the JourneyCare Foundation, and the importance of private donations to keep important services available to those who need them. Kristin Frazier, who took over the Gala in 2009, has been responsible for increasing the annual Gala revenue to over $400,000 since 2011.
Jason Leppin, Vice President of the JourneyCare Foundation introduced the Mission Story. The JourneyCare Foundation was founded in 1992 to help JourneyCare keep one of its most important promises: never turn anyone away because of inability to pay. Over the years, the generous support of community members like those supporting the Gala has allowed them to provide financial support to:
Cover costs related to uninsured or underinsured patients
Develop JourneyCare for Children pediatric programs to provide specialized, compassionate care and support for infants, children and families facing serious or life-limiting illness
Develop integrative therapies programs to compliment the care we provide
Expand JourneyCare’s grief support services for families and the community
Jason introduced the two Master of Ceremonies David Nelson and Dominic Greene who pulled the raffle winners and championed the game of 'Heads or Tails’ – where Barrington Hills resident Peggy Thodos won a 1983 bottle of Chateau Lafite Rothschild donated by Mary Galvin, valued at over $1000. The bottle was accidently opened, so Peggy and her husband Dr. John Thodos generously shared the wine with friends at the Gala.
