Barrington High School hosted an official signing ceremony for Braden, his family, coaches and high school on April 25th
Braden Detelich was selected as a member of the Belmont University (Division 1) Co-Ed Cheerleading Squad.
Braden’s family members include parents Dawn & Mark Detelich, brother Cole Detelich, a sophomore and on the BHS baseball team.
BHS Cheer Coaches Laura Meehan, Stephanie Hawkins, and Maddie Dardanes were excited one of their squad would continue to cheer in college as others from their program have gone on to do in the past.
"We are fortunate that we usually have one or two students continue to cheer in college," shared Coach Meehan.
This past season the Barrington Competitive Co-Ed Team qualified for IHSA State Competition for its’ 12th year in a row- This is a BHS school record for any team to have consecutive state qualifying appearances!
Following the cheerleading tryouts, Belmont_Cheerleading posted a video of Braden’s tumbling pass on Instagram stating:
“@barringtoncheer you trained him (Braden) well! We just love @braden_detelich already and are thrilled to have him on the team!”
Belmont cheerleaders are widely recognized as one of the premier squads in the conference placing fourth at the 2015 UCA Cheer Division I National Championships and awarded Top Spirit Program. The Belmont squad is led by former Alabama Crimson Tide cheerleading standout Lindsey Wheeley. This is her 15th year as Head Coach of this nationally recognized team. Only 25 students from across the country are selected to participate in the program each year.
Braden will attend Belmont University in the Fall of 2018 to Study audio engineering and entertainment business within the Mike Curb School of Music. He will also receive a financial scholarship from Belmont University as a squad member.
“We are so fortunate to have moved from Ohio to such a progressive school system in terms of outstanding academics and a wide variety of athletics,” said Braden’s dad, Mark Detelich.
Braden is also a four-year letterman for BHS gymnastics and an IHSA state qualifier on vault and floor. Braden was inducted into the Barrington Hall of Fame in 2017 for his gymnastic athletic achievements.
