At its Feb. 6 meeting, the board of education approved the $1.1 million purchase of the office building located at 515 W. Main Street in Barrington, across from Barrington High School.
The building is being acquired from PepsiCo Inc., which used it most recently as a facility for Gatorade. The building has been vacant for a few years. The district plans to use funds from its reserves to purchase the building.
The board intends to move the district administration office, which is currently located at 310 James Street, to the new building. District officials identified several improvements and benefits this would provide the Barrington 220 School District. The purchase enables the district to avoid significant costs estimated at $1.1 million, to maintain the James Street facility.
The district anticipates moving into the building on W. Main Street this summer.
The board will consider several options for use of the James Street facility that comes from the Blueprint 220 process, including the sale of the property.
