Station Scholastic Bowl Team Earns State Championship Title

Capping a strong season of competition between January and May, the Barrington Station Middle School Scholastic Bowl team bested a strong field at the Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) State Scholastic Bowl Finals to go undefeated (10-0) in state tournament play to win the State title in Peoria.


This achievement capped a strong season where the "A" team had only one loss, achieving a record of 61-1. The team was comprised of 8th graders Michael Chmiel, Liam Starnes, Keegan Teal and Bryce Vist and 7th grader Abigail Bergan.

Reserve players who saw action during the State Series included 8th grader Vaarin Shroff, 7th graders Ella Holtermann, Jack Scott, Morgan Rees, Sean Varwig, and Timothy Price, and 6th graders Kian Mohsenzadeh, Evan Cui, Kenny Guo, and Sophia Price.



Following the strong season, the Station team was also invited to two national invitational competitions, in Dallas and Rosemont, where they also performed strongly against middle school teams from across the country, with an aggregate Nationals record of (17-5).

The Station Scholastic Bowl program is under the direction of Coach Jeffrey Price, now in his 20th year of scholastic/quiz bowl coaching.
