A Legacy of Support
Since our formation in 1966, we have had a role in founding and/or supporting numerous organization that fit our Mission to conduct programs that improve or maintain the intrinsic values and traditional character of community life in the Barrington Area. Our initial help may be through finding financial seed funding, or providing assistance on mission statement formulation and by-laws creation. Organizations may also seek our help in the areas of strategic planning, legal assistance , marketing strategies, networking advice and more. As seedling organizations grow, their changing needs may mean we will be called upon to help with board recruitment, fundraising strategies, or establishing self assessment models. Finally, with mature, successful, independent, organizations we may form partnerships to accomplish common interest larger projects.
The Barrington Area Council on Aging is the primary organization in the Barrington area that serves our growing population of seniors and caregivers, including family and friends. For active seniors, we offer programs, services and activities to help them remain vital, contributing members of the community.
Its mission is to foster cooperation and strategies to address regional challenges and support the comprehensive plan for the area. The BACOG area encompasses a section of approximately 90 square miles northwest of Chicago. It includes the Villages of Barrington, Barrington Hills, Deer Park, Lake Barrington, North Barrington, South Barrington, and Tower Lakes.
Barrington Area Special Voices (BASV) is an all inclusive, not-for-profit volunteer run organization that supports children and families with unique needs in the greater Barrington area. Founded in 2007, our mission is to work to provide resources, advocacy, support and improved educational and social opportunities for children with unique needs in the Barrington area and throughout the Northwest suburbs of Chicago.
Citizens For Conservation’s mission is “Saving Living Space for Living Things” through protection, restoration and stewardship of land, conservation of natural resources, and education.
This organization was instrumental in responding to citizens needing housing after Katrina.
A Ride for 3 Reasons is a series of self-supported solo cross-country charity bike rides by Bob Lee of Barrington, IL with the purpose of raising funds for Cancer Research, ALS ( Lou Gehrig’s Disease) Research, and to elevate the public awareness of Hospice.
Barrington Community Unit School District 220 was formed in 1973 as a consolidated unit, combining two elementary districts and a high school district into one unit that educates students from pre-kindergarten through high school. Located about 35 miles northwest of Chicago, District 220 encompasses 72 square miles. It covers 12 villages.
Flint Creek Watershed Partnership’s goal is to educate while building partnerships for projects to improve water quality, reduce flooding, and preserve and restore wetlands, prairies, and other natural features for future generations.
GiGi’s Playhouse is all about achievement, belief and confidence. Serving Down’s syndrome children and adults of all ages, Playhouses across the country offer 30 educational and therapeutic programs at no charge to families. All programs aim to maximize self-confidence and empower individuals to achieve their greatest potential.
H.E.R.E. in Barrington is a community coalition comprised of a passionate board of directors and area residents. With the support of CUSD 220 we are focused on suicide prevention for teens.
The granddaughter of a community leader was stricken with a rare blood disease, so rare that there was not a national organization that provided research for a cure.
Management of illnesses that strike the elderly often requires extensive blood product support. With an aging population, the demand for blood products is likely to increase. An important component of many medical and surgical treatments is the highly specialized blood products collected by LifeSource.
The LNCI initiative brings to the broad community the awareness of a very important children’s health issue, that being time spent outdoors in nature is critical to a child’s healthy cognitive, physical, social and emotional development.
Smart Farm cultivates a healthy, eco-friendly community by: Offering adults and children learning opportunities in sustainable gardening; Promoting the benefits of sustainable gardening; and, Donating fresh produce to support our neighbors in need.
